MINERAL MONDAY: FLUORITE
If there has ever been a time we need fluorite energy it is now. I have found myself getting stuck in negative thought patterns based in fear, uncertainty, and anxiety more often than ever before. When we can’t be as in control as we are used to, it can throw us off balance and it becomes hard to maintain a schedule or any kind of structure within which we can accomplish our normal tasks. I’ve even had to make myself wash my face and change my clothes after days of forgoing such simple things just because I’m operating from a place of negative energy and fear. Enough of that though because this whole situation will probably still get worse before it gets better and that isn’t something that I want to let stop my productivity and forward momentum!
Fluorite provides the clarifying, detoxifying, structured energy that we could all use a little more of right now. It wants to help you turn chaotic or disorganized thought into a streamlined to-do list that maximizes efficiency and minimizes your stress. It is so easy to get overwhelmed — I can’t count the number of times I’ve asked myself “where the heck do I even start” and that is where fluorite lends a helping hand. It eliminates negative influences, blockages, behaviors, and thought patterns to help you feel a little more light and prepared to get back on your path.
After lifting that emotional weight from your shoulders it wants you to identify some sort of structure that you can work on in order to get where you want to be. It paves the path and helps you lay each brick in place. I’ve heard it referred to as a personal assistant which is a really great way to see it. An extra boost to make sure you make it to all your appointments and never miss a deadline — while maintaining that easy breezy attitude because you actually trust in the universe and yourself and the fluorite and the whole thing.
Fluorite has an octahedral mineral structure — whether it forms naturally as a perfect octahedron on a base rock or a messy chunk that will get chiseled down into an octahedral or polished into a slab, all fluorite has that specific structure at a microscopic level! I think that is so cool and it says a lot about its properties. That strong structure is present both physically and metaphysically in fluorite and that is one of the many magics of the mineral kingdom.
It brings harmony and order to chaotic energies and can be great for artists or anyone doing creative problem solving, providing a little guidance on which tangent to go with. It is great for focus and is also known to assist in information retention and memory recall. It is great for the brain and its general function involving organization and direction. It also provides the life force needed to keep your mental processor working at maximum capacity. It is my favorite stone for keeping levels of inspiration and focus at a constant supply — especially in my studio where I do most of my thinking and making.
I’ve given fluorite palm stones to friends and family members who are prone to overthinking and worrying about everything and they have reported that the stone literally crumbled into pieces after actually working for them for a while — this reminds us that fluorite needs regular cleansing! It works so hard to pull negative energy and influence out of your thoughts and your emotional body that it can get blocked up. I like to use running water and the smoke from palo santo or incense to clear the energy of my stones.
When I feel a stone isn’t providing me with the support it should be or just feels off from how it usually feels, its probably time for a cleanse and recharge. Every time I clear my stones I reset my intentions with them, with fluorite I ask for clarity and focus to make the ideas in my mind become a reality here on the physical plane. As someone who personally experiences anxiety, depression, and ADD I find much comfort in the energy of fluorite and always have a piece nearby if not physically on me.
All shades of fluorite contain these properties but their colors inform which areas they will resonate with. Green fluorite is associated with the heart chakra, emotions, the natural world, and the physical body. Purple fluorite is associated with the third eye and crown chakras focusing more on divine energy and spiritual guidance. Blue fluorite, the most rare, works closely with the throat chakra and communication.
key words: clarity | insight | structure | action
when you might want some fluorite handy:
when mental chaos consumes you and you seek organization and clarity
if you are feeling overwhelmed and need a calming but encouraging energy
to calm anxiety, stress, OCD, destructive thought patterns, and general overthinking
for guidance of where to expend your energy and action in order to optimize efficiency
I like to address my collection regularly and see if anything jumps out at me — if something does then I like to take a moment to think about its properties (often I refer to my crystal books or even a quick google is helpful). When I am able to resonate with the properties of a stone that has caught my attention, I am in tune with its energy and it is in tune with mine. This practice also helps you grow your working knowledge of the stones!! There is so much to it and it is easy to get overwhelmed. If you take it day by day, crystal by crystal, it comes to you.
